Simulation of continuous chromatographic processes

These days the use of models to predict process behaviour has become more and more common. The main reasons for this are that it is more practical and economical than using for example the trial and error method with expensive equipment. In the field of preparative chromatography the use of models to predict process behaviour has been proven to be very useful, especially for batch chromatography. However, nowadays the demand for higher production and lowering of operating costs has led to the using of models to predict the process behaviour of continuous chromatographic processes. In this thesis two models have been implemented into MATLAB. One for simulation of the true moving bed (TMB) process and one for simulation of the smulated moving bed (SMB) process. Also design tools for estimation of the operating parameters for both processes were implemented into MATLAB.
